Lynwood Smith passed away at age 95, leaving behind a loving family, including his daughter, Tana Nordaker, son Mike Smith, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Cartha Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lynwood earned a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture & Education from Murray State University and served in the Air Force for 21 years, reaching the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After retirement, he embarked on a second career as a teacher in the Columbia IL School District 4, where he taught various subjects and coached softball and track. He was also a dedicated referee for basketball and baseball games at high school and college levels.

Known for his involvement in Habitat for Humanity and The Sojourners, Lynwood was a 50-year member of the O’Fallon, IL Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, and Ainad Shrine, supporting the St. Louis Shriner’s Hospital. An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, he enjoyed playing golf well into his late 80s.

A graveside service will be held at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood on Tuesday, February 25 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Illinois Veteran’s Home.

Lynwood's legacy of service and devotion to his faith will be cherished by all who knew him. An online guestbook has been set up for family memories and condolences.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris, IL.
