Morris, IL - Frank LaVerne Sereno passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on September 15, 1924, in Morris, IL, to Frank Joseph and Beulah Sereno, Frank's life was marked by dedication, service, and a wide array of talents.

After graduating from Mazon Township High School in 1942, he joined the Army Air Force during World War II. Serving as an aerial gunner on an A-26 Invader bomber with the 416th Bombardment Group, 9th Air Force, he flew 10 combat missions over Germany. In 1944, Frank married Phyllis Johnson and they had a daughter, Carol Ann.

After the war, Frank opted for a stable job, completing a carpenter apprenticeship and working as a supervisor for various construction companies. He displayed a passion for music, playing the piano, organ, and leading his own band for two decades. Additionally, he excelled at sports, particularly enjoying softball, bowling, and golf. An avid sports fan, he followed tennis, Cubs, Bulls, and Bears. His musical talents extended to over 50 years of playing piano and singing and being a faithful member of Park Street Church in Mazon.

Frank was an active member of various organizations, including the Carpenters' Union Local #916, Mazon American Legion #352, Mazon Masons #826, Mazon Lion's Club, and Morris Country Club. He also served as the Mazon Village President for eight years.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Walker, son-in-law Dick Walker, grandchildren Kelli Walker, Brian (Jamie) Walker, great-grandchildren Kayla Walker, Kyle Walker, as well as bonus family members. Frank was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, brother-in-law Robert Johnson, and close friends Rae Hinton and Margie Maunder.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on January 23, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Park Street Church in Mazon.
