As the 100-year anniversary of Illinois Route 66 nears, the Illinois Senate has passed Senate Joint Resolution 12 (SJR 12). The resolution officially designates 2026 as the Illinois Route 66 Centennial Year.

SJR 12 acknowledges Illinois' significant contribution to Route 66 history, highlighting its distinction as the first state to fully pave the highway and being the location of its starting point.

State Senator Sue Rezin commented, "Route 66 is more than just a road; it is a symbol of American freedom and exploration, and rightfully deserves recognition."

The resolution now proceeds to the House for additional consideration.
