High school FFA students, farmers, and agriculture professionals convened at the Illinois State Capitol on April 9 for the annual Illinois Ag Lobby Day. This event is a tradition during the legislative session that brings participants to Springfield to advocate for the agricultural sector and its economic contributions to Illinois.
During their visit to the Capitol, attendees engaged with lawmakers on several critical issues. Discussions included the significance of agricultural education, the need for increased conservation efforts awareness, and concerns over the state's estate tax, which many believe endangers the viability of family farms.
State Senator Sue Rezin expressed that Ag Lobby Day provides a valuable connection for the agricultural community to communicate with legislators. She praised the involvement of FFA students, noting their role as ambassadors. "I am always impressed by the work of FFA students who serve as ambassadors of the event," she remarked.
Senator Rezin further noted her optimism in seeing young agricultural leaders taking initiative to be heard on matters impacting their future. "It’s encouraging to see young ag leaders stepping up and making their voices heard on issues that directly affect their future," she said.
