Illinois Senators have returned to Springfield after a two-week spring break to start deliberating on legislation recently passed by the House. The sessions will proceed each week until the end of May as lawmakers approach the final weeks of the spring legislative calendar.

Before the General Assembly adjourns on May 31, legislators need to consider bills that have moved forward from the opposite chamber. A primary objective remains the passage of the state's next Fiscal Year budget, a task that has been significant in previous sessions.

In February, Governor Pritzker presented the largest budget proposal in the state's history, amounting to more than $53 billion, despite anticipating a deficit.

Senate Republicans are advocating for fiscal responsibility, focusing on prioritizing the needs of hardworking Illinois families. Their agenda includes reducing over $1 billion in expenditure linked to the Governor's programs for non-citizens.
