Additionally, there was a proposed digital advertising tax targeting small businesses, which could have increased expenses for family-run enterprises dependent on online marketing.
Opponents of these proposals argue that while they have been halted temporarily, they remain part of Governor Pritzker's broader strategy to expand government funding by shifting financial burdens onto those least able to afford them. Lawmakers caution that if these taxes are reintroduced, it will be working families and seniors who will face the greatest impact.
