Walter W. “Wally” Mahaffay | Ferrari Funeral Services - Coal City

Walter W. “Wally” Mahaffay, 80, of Diamond, IL, passed away on July 17, 2025, at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care in Joliet. Born on May 10, 1945, in Chicago, IL, to Bud and Barb Mahaffay, Wally was married to Geraldine Kubiak for 25 years until her passing in 2002.

Wally dedicated 32 years of service as a painter for the Illinois Tollway. He found joy in traveling, particularly enjoying cruises and trips to Las Vegas, and was an avid collector of Lionel Trains.

He is survived by his sons, Walt (Lynne) Mahaffay and Frank Mahaffay (fiancée Rachael Rinchiuso), grandchildren Kayla (Cody) Musson, Kellee (Paul) Phillips, and Jake Mahaffay, great-grandchildren Ainslee, Nash, and Ada, brothers David (Irene) Mahaffay and Frank Mahaffay, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, his parents, brother Brian Mahaffay, and sister Mona Mahaffay.

A private funeral service will be held, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice. Family and friends can share memories and condolences through the online guestbook at www.ferrarifuneral.com. Ferrari Funeral Services of Coal City are entrusted with the arrangements.
