Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers has joined the DAISY Award program, an international initiative that honors nurses for exceptional and compassionate care. The hospital will select one nurse each quarter for the DAISY Award, based on nominations from patients, families, physicians, or staff who have observed outstanding nursing care.

The DAISY Foundation was started in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after his death from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at age 33. The Barnes family created the award to recognize nurses’ clinical skill and compassion. The acronym DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

At Morris Hospital, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses (RNs), and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in any department or physician office are eligible for nomination. Nominations can be submitted through paper forms available at DAISY collection boxes throughout the hospital and its offices, or electronically on the Morris Hospital website. A committee of nurses from across the organization will review nominations and select one recipient each quarter. The first winner at Morris Hospital will be announced in November.

“Joining the DAISY program allows us to formally recognize the extraordinary care our nurses provide to patients and families every day,” said Kathy Rombach, Assistant Vice President of Patient Care Services at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. “It’s an honor to celebrate their compassion and dedication through such a meaningful program.”

The hospital’s participation in the DAISY Award is supported by donors to the Morris Hospital Auxiliary and Foundation.
