ILLINOIS EDUCATION ASSOCIATION MINOOKA REGION: IEA congratulates Attorney General-elect Kwame Raoul on hard-fought victory

Congrats

Illinois Education Association Minooka Region issued the following announcement on Nov. 7.

The Illinois Education Association (IEA) is proud to congratulate IEA-recommended Attorney General-elect Kwame Raoul on his victory tonight.

“Strong unions and strong public education won tonight,” said IEA President Kathi Griffin. “Our members turned out in force this election to ensure that our elected officials will fight for them, their students and their communities. We know Attorney General-elect Kwame Raoul will fight to protect our rights as a union and as educators.”

IEA membership voted overwhelmingly to recommend Raoul and turned out in force to help get him and other pro-public education candidates elected, up and down the ballot. IEA members across Illinois have volunteered countless hours to ensure that public education is at the forefront of this election cycle. IEA members made 25,000 phone calls in support of Raoul and other IEA-recommended candidates.

“The last four years have been difficult for public education and our members,” said Griffin. “We have a president and a governor who are openly hostile to unions and are working to take away our voice as educators and to privatize public education. Kwame is the check we need on the Trump administration to ensure that our rights and our students’ rights are protected.”

The IEA is committed to working with Raoul to ensure that all educators’ and students’ rights are protected and enforced. This includes enforcing laws related to funding education as prescribed through the evidence-based model, fighting for more protections for all students and protecting the collective bargaining rights of educators and education support professionals.
