Chicago (44,170 cases) and Cook County (31,136 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,049, while Cook County recorded 1,470 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 829,966, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 20,861 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 54,943 were male and 58,469 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,865, while female deaths stood at 2,311.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,219 Asians, 2,219 whites, 1,546 African-Americans, 1,003 Hispanics, and 167 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
