University of Illinois System Senate Committee on Faculty and Academic Staff Benefits met Oct 13.

I.CALL TO ORDER

A regular meeting of the Senate Committee on Faculty and Academic Staff Benefits (FB) was called to order at 11:00 am with Chair Lange presiding. 

II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The minutes of the September 15, 2020 meeting were approved as distributed by roll call vote.

Yes: Lange, Martin, Sotomayor, Thomas, Tipei

No: None

Abstain: None

III.PUBLIC COMMENT

No requests received.

IV.CHAIR’S REMARKS

Chair Lange encouraged FB members to continue to share information with colleagues regarding the change to the SURS Self Managed Plan.

V.OLD BUSINESS

FB.20.02, Behavioral Economics of Retirement Planning

No new discussion.

VI.NEWBUSINESS

No new business.

VII.UPDATE FROM SURSMAC REPRESENTATIVES

Williamson reported that SURSMAC is not scheduled to meet during the fall semester. An online meeting is planned in the spring.

VIII.UPDATE FROM UNIVERSITY PAYROLL AND BENEFITS

No update.

IX.UPDATE FROM STATE UNIVERSITIES RETIREMENT SYSTEM

Williamson reported that SURS has announced it will hold a board election to fill four expiring trustee positions. Two of those whose terms are expiring are Aaron Ammons and J. Fred Giertz from the University of Illinois. He noted that interested candidates are encouraged to petition for the election. 

X.UPDATE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PROVOST

No update.

XI.UPDATE FROM FACULTY STAFF ASSISTANCE SERVICES(FSAS)

Wolfson reported that FSAS is proactively offering counseling slots related to post election stress. Based upon demand four years ago, FSAS wants to be prepared to provide support.

XII.UPDATE FROM ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FORHUMAN RESOURCES

Ross distributed copies of the HR/Benefits: Current Topics & Events document and gave an overview:

•Open enrollment for RSL BasicCare will be held November 23-December 4. Coverage is offered to approximately 1,300 CMS ineligible employees system-wide (e.g., extra help employees).

•Hundreds of employees have been impacted by the widespread identity theft targeting unemployment assistance programs. Employees are encouraged to watch for any unusual mail from the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES). Any suspected fraud should be reported to IDES and the FBI.

XIII.UPDATE FROM THE UIUCCHAPTER OF THE STATE UNIVERSITIES ANNUITANTS ASSOCIATION

Williamson reported that a meeting for the UIUC Chapter of the State Universities Annuitants Association is scheduled for December 6.

XIV.UPDATE FROM THE COUNCIL OF ACADEMIC PROFESSIONALS

West updated FB on the following:

•Ongoing discussions continue regarding the All Employee Expo that is held each fall including if a virtual option can be offered.
