ROWVA Community Unit School District 208 Board met Jan. 19.

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Haynes at 7.:00 p.m.

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 p.m.:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kalb (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Present ☒ Not Present ☐).

Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. West seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of December 14, 2020, the Treasurer’s Report, and the payment of all bills in Education,Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye☒Nay☐),andMr.Haynes(Aye☒Nay☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, three members of the certified staff, Cody Basham of Klingler and Associates and Bell of the press.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: School year goals, educational spotlight, and no school on February 12th (Teacher Institute) and February 15th (President’s Day).

Mr. Seaney presented the jr./sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: School year goals, enrollment numbers/comparison, student spotlight and honor roll, education spotlight and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. All items were Agenda items.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to seek bids for building improvements for the High School and Cafeteria. Bids will be organized by Klingler and Associates. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the Mid-County Football Coop with Galva and Williamsfield be renewed for two more year. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

The Athletic Committee discussed a ROWVA-Williamsfield sports coop. Mr. Sornberger presented the PRESS Polices for the first reading.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the Closed Session Minutes from June 2020 through November 2020 be opened. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: 

Mr. Johnson (Aye☒Nay☐), Mr.Kalb (Aye☒ Nay☐),Mr. Kuelper (Aye☒ Nay☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 8:18 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation of Jenny Lair (School Counselor) be accepted at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation of Tristan Lepisto (Business Technology Teacher) be accepted at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Annabeth Gibbons be hired as a HS Math Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Kalb moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to post job openings for a HS Counselor, a Jr/Sr High School Business Technology Teacher and a PreK teaching position. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.
