During the month of September, the United States is recognizing and calling attention to the problem of hunger and food insecurity through National Hunger Action Month.
Every year this month focusses increased attention and awareness on the need to solve worldwide hunger and food insecurity and offers ordinary residents a chance to make a difference.
At Maine Township, our food pantry serves as a life-saving outlet for many residents in need. The recently updated food pantry allows residents in need to shop with dignity for perishable and non-perishable food as they would in their local grocery store. The pantry provides food for hundreds of residents and Maine Township school children every month.
The food is donated by individuals, businesses, and local organizations such as churches, schools, and Scout programs who hold food drives to keep the Food Pantry stocked throughout the year. The Township was lucky to recently receive a large donation which led to the purchase of a commercial-grade refrigerator and updated flooring for the pantry!
Monetary or food donations may be dropped off during normal business hours of 9-5 pm Monday through Friday at the Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Rd., Park Ridge.
