Agenda Item: Public Participation

Dan Patlak, Cook County Board of Review Commissioner spoke in favor of the Resolution. He stated that the voters should have the opportunity to express their views on this if in the event it would be brought up again. The commissioners who represent this area and the Cook County Board President would also know where their constituents stand.

Barbara Eastman, a resident of Maine Township, spoke in favor of the Resolution and to let Cook County know the voters do not want this tax.

Agenda Item: Discussion and potential action to Adopt a Resolution Calling for an Advisory Referendum asking: Should Cook County reject reinstating the sweetened beverage tax (soda tax)?

Supervisor Morask stated this Resolution is being proposed because various members of Cook County Commissioners, who represent many of the constituents we do, are concerned this tax could be reinstated due to the deficit that Cook County is facing. She added this allows the voters by this Advisory Referendum if passed, to be on the Maine Township ballot.
