Last week marked the deadline for bills in the Senate and House to move from their original chambers to the opposite chamber for further consideration. Lawmakers spent the week engaging in debates and voting on legislation as the deadline approached.

While numerous bills failed to progress before the cutoff, they are not entirely out of consideration. Options remain, such as deadline extensions and the use of shell bills, which can be amended to advance proposals.

One bill that attracted significant attention but did not advance was House Bill 2827. This bill aimed to introduce more stringent regulations for parents who homeschool their children. State Senator Sue Rezin commented on its failure to move forward, noting that this was "welcomed news," but emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant, as the bill might resurface later in the spring session.

As the General Assembly enters the second half of the session, attention shifts to reviewing bills from the other chamber. The deadline for House Bills to clear Senate committees is set for May 9.
